Northern Lites Camp is located on a small lake north of Fort Francis, Ontario, and is just a short portage to Rainey Lake, an angler’s dream location! After a short float plane trip from Fort Francis, you will be greeted at the dock by your host and their staff. From this point forward, get set for a “crankin” good time! This rustic camp set amongst the fir trees and the pristine waters of this private lake offers seclusion and respite for our work weary souls. This is a wonderful place to take your family.
Your hosts are family oriented, and enjoy engaging the company of children. We start fishing here in mid-May through mid-September. But remember, you’re in Canada. Even the summer months can get very cool in the evenings.
Your guide is an expert on the local waters, and after a very successful morning fishing, he will prepare your catch for a delicious shore lunch, a treat to be remembered…and, savored! With the exception of the fish cooked for lunch, these are catch and release lakes, abounding with great northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and small mouth bass. It has been our experience that with ultra-light, spinning tackle, after a full day of catching and releasing small mouth, you’ve had just about as much fun as you can stand! If you’re not quite sure what lures to bring, just bring your rods and reels. Northern Lites has a fully stocked tackle shop with all the color combinations and lures that work best on these lakes.
The typical “American” plan is 5 nights and 3 full days of fishing. You will arrive in the mid-afternoon. For the adventurous, take one of Northern Lites boats and fish the local lake until dark – around 9:30-10:00p.m. For the next three days, after a hearty breakfast, you and your guide will head for Rainey Lake for some of the most explosive fishing in North America, along with some of the most spectacular scenery which includes a wide diversity of wild life. Be watching for bald eagles, moose and black bear. Wow, just writing about it, I’m ready to go back now!

Tobin Lake Hunting Preserve, located in northern Saskatchewan, a 3 hour drive from Saskatoon, specializes in very large deer, elk, bison and wolf. This outfitter does not offer free range hunting; however, the enclosure encompasses more than 380 acres with rolling hills and stands of aspen and fir. Don’t let the high fence fool you. These are very difficult hunts. If you’re after 170+ deer, or 350+ elk, bison well over 2000 pounds, and color phase wolves, Tobin Lake will exceed your expectations for truly once in a lifetime trophies.
At this point in time, Tobin Lake is planning their new lodge to be completed in time for the 2009 season. They currently lodge their clients at Tobin Lake Inn, a clean, modern facility with all the amenities for the discriminating traveler.
For the hunter wanting an unusual trophy, we can start hunting in mid-August for white tail and elk in velvet. We recommend mid-September through mid-November, but can accommodate your travel needs through January. Due to the limited number of these very large white tails and elk, you need to book early in the year to ensure we reserve a trophy in the size range you want. You may use a bow, muzzle-loader or rifle.
Frank Freshwater, Valley Outdoors partner, took a 178 non-typical whitetail with a bow after three hard days of hunting; and a 6 by 7 elk, scoring 388 with a rifle, and a bison that broke a 3000 pound scale! You will not be disappointed. Frank sure wasn’t!
